Sex Toy Care

Caring for your Sex Toy: Need to Know Info. If You Already Own or Are Thinking About Buying One!

Pleasure objects are crafted from a diverse range of textures & materials and sometimes a combination of more than one. Not all sex toy are created equal and there are slightly different cleaning and preservation methods for each intimate object material. Whichever type you own, proper care of your pleasure pieces is essential to not only extending its lifespan but also protect you or your lover’s(s) most sensitive areas.

Non-porous materials like— 100% silicone, stainless steel, glass, and some hard plastics are non-porous and have no tiny crevices for germs to hide in. They are the easiest to clean and disinfect.

Porous toys while they tend to be more budget friendly, have nooks and crannies for germs and bacteria to hide in and cannot be fully cleaned. Porous materials include elastomer, thermoplastic rubber (TPR), CyberSkin, SoftSkin, silicone blends, jelly-rubber, PVC, vinyl, and other rubbery plastics. (We recommend using a condom on these types of toys whether you’re sharing them or not.)

The Alluring Violet loves silicone! Most of our vibrators and many of our dildos are made from this smooth, safe, and very sexy material. 100% silicone is a non-porous surface that is hypoallergenic, feels smooth and dry, and responds quickly to and retains body temperature. It is odorless and waterproof and can be cleaned easily with mild soap and warm water, or a 10% bleach solution.

With silicone toys always use water-based lubricants unless using with a condom— because oil based and silicone lubricants can degrade the quality of your silicone toys.

Just a note: Silicone adult toys, if stored together will react adversely with one another and disintegrate over time. Silicone is also a lint magnet, so silicone toys always need to be protected inside of some sort of protective storage bags like the Sugar Sak™ or other storage methods of your choosing.

Metal accessories are hard, smooth, low maintenance, very safe and resilient and virtually indestructible, they are super easy to care for. Most metal pleasure objects are made from stainless steel, aluminum, silver, gold, or platinum.

They have a characteristic sleek, slick surface, and require no special precautions for use- they are resistive to almost everything. Metal tools, like most of our silicone offerings, are non-porous and easy to clean and maintain. You can use the same soap and water or 10% bleach solution, but be sure to dry the device straight-away! Metal is responsive to temperature and can be heated or cooled for sensation play.

All lubricant types can be used with these types of bedroom accessories and if cared for properly, they tend to last indefinitely.

Smoothly-sensual, renewable and luxurious in feel, wood warms and responds to your passion. We only carry one product line of this material, and all of these dildos are crafted of renewable, natural materials, each one having a different character. These wood dildos are made of hand-selected woods, carved and meticulously polished using the highest standards of craftsmanship. Each sculpture is silky smooth and encapsulated with an odorless, bio-compatible coating- they may be soaked in water and remain in contact with the body for hours at a time. These objects are made without any wax to melt away or petroleum distillates to leach out during use.

Wood bedroom accessories are compatible with all lubricant types and they will not absorb water, fray, or splinter.

Glass and Stone

Sumptuous and strong, glass and stone accessories are thick, heavy and hard to break. Though safe and resilient, they still require some special precautions. Our glass bedroom accessories are constructed of medical grade borosilicate glass and are extremely durable and break-resistant, capable of withstanding up to 3,000 lbs of pressure. Artfully crafted, our natural stone pieces are as stunningly beautiful as they are unique. Both glass and stone pleasure objects should be cleaned with warm water and anti-bacterial soap. Glass toys can also be boiled or placed in the dishwasher.

To enhance pleasure during use, these instruments can be placed in cold or warm water to alter the temperature to your pleasure preference. Store both glass and stone in a cool dry place after use and inspect each before its next performance. Should an extremely rare splinter, chip or crack occur, discontinue use of the instrument.

Any lubricant type can be used with glass and stone products.

Plastic, Jelly, Rubber Latex, and CyberSkin

Though not as commonly used, The Alluring Violet may offer some products constructed of plastic, jelly, rubber latex, CyberSkin or a combination of these and other body safe materials. Care and storage for all of these materials are very similar. All can be appropriately cleaned with warm water and antibacterial soap, or with a toy cleaner. Rubber Latex products can also be sanitized with rubbing alcohol but should be re-cleaned before use with soap and water.

Because plastic, jelly, rubber latex and CyberSkin are porous materials, they can harbor bacteria and should be washed with warm water and anti-bacterial soap before and after every use. It is recommended that CyberSkin toys be dusted with a cornstarch powder after cleaning and in-between uses, as the material can be particularly “tacky” and sticky to the touch.

Note: Jellies can be made with phthalates, an agent that lends to their softness, but is by some considered unsafe. Exposure to the phthalates in Jelly type toys can be minimized through condom use and like silicone. Clean and store them separately after each use.

With all of these product offerings, only water-based lubricants should be used- silicone and oil-based lubricants can degrade the quality of these products.

Note: Battery-operated and rechargeable toys require some precautions while cleaning to keep water out of electrical components. Use a soapy washcloth or toy cleaner to wipe them down. Water-resistant and fully waterproof vibrators can be washed normally with soap under running water, but never boil a motorized toy or put it in the dishwasher.

Make sure your pleasure product is fully dry before storing it away. Remove any batteries between uses to prevent corrosion and battery drain.
